She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Henry C. Jones, in 1989; her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Raymond Wanck; her daughter-in-law, Carol Jones; son-in-law, William Fiester; granddaughter, Karyla Fiester; and great-grandson, Shane (Tom) Spiegel.
Lena was born in Richford, NY, on April 21, 1909, the daughter of Porter and Libbie Shrauger, who also predecease her, along with all of her brothers and sisters, James, Lucius, Olive, Mary, Ruby, Allen, Roy, Walter and Nettie. Shortly after she was born, Lena's family moved from Richford to Owego by horse-drawn wagon, a two day trip. She spent most of her childhood in the Owego area and as a young lady moved to Johnson City to work in the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Factory. In 1941 she married Henry Jones and moved to Church Street in Endicott, where her life career became establishing a loving home, welcoming both family and friends. She became known as "Mom" and "Grandma" not only to her family but to many friends and neighbors. Her chocolate chip cookies were famous in the neighborhood.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles and Gwen Jones, Campville; Almeda Fiester, Owego; Walter and Nancy Jones, Endicott; Ruth and David Cordick, Watkins Glen; Beverly and Peter Barnum, Endwell; grandchildren Katherine Fitch, Heidi Spiegel, Nancy French, Kimberly Kuhlman, Tammy Moore, Timothy Jones and David Cordick; 10 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 300 East Main Street, Endicott, on Saturday, September 26 from 1:00 to 3:30. Funeral service to immediately follow. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City at the convenience of her family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Castle Gardens Keepsake Village and the South One and West Wing staffs at Willow Point for the wonderful care given to her through her long journey with Alzheimer's.
