He was the son of Richard L. Duncan and Mary "Polly" ___ formerly of Smith Co, TN Richard was the son of Elijah Duncan, Rev. War Veteran d. Smith Co, TN. William served in Doniphan's troops 1st Regiment Missouri Mounted Volunteers in the Mexican War and received Bounty Land for his service in Franklin Co, MO. He maried Margaret Jane Jones born Aug 31, 1827 died April 2, 1891, Boston, Madison Co, AR, on April 23, 1848 Franklin Co, MO, daughter of Henry Jones, Jr. and Hannah Hinkle from Pendleton Co, WVA, a descendant of Rev. Anthony Jacob Henckel an ordained Lutheran pastor from Hesse to America in 1710 . William and Margaret moved shortly after their marriage to Brown County, Ks. Then to Wyandotte Co, KS where he joined the Union Army, W. B. Duncan, Co. F. 16-KS. Vol. After the war he moved to a farm now in Kansas City spelled Ceander in his pension papers. Before 1870 he moved to Madison Co, AR where he remained until his removal to Fort Scott, KS. His wife, Margaret Jane was buried Boston Cemetery in extant Boston (near Pettigrew), Madison Co, AR.
