Mrs. Edna Clara Birchfield, 73, died Friday, February 5 in an Amarillo hospital a few hours after undergoing heart surgery. She had been in ill health for several years.
Mrs. Birchfield was a retired practical nurse and a long-time member of First United Methodist Church.
The former Edna Clara Seymour, she was born September 29, 1908 at Colorado City, the daughter of the late J.H. and Mary Oldham Seymour. She came to Collingsworth County with her parents when she was a young girl.
She was married to Joe Birchfield on December 6, 1928 at Dodson. They lived at Dodson, later Wellington, then one year in Clarendon before he died November 8, 1957.
Surviving Mrs. Birchfield are two daughters, Mrs. Billy Joe Patterson of Wellington and Mrs. Billy Joe Langford of Elk City, OK; two brothers, Claude Seymour of Vinson, OK and Milton Seymour of Wellington; and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Pritchard of Shamrock and Mrs. R. L. York of Wichita Falls. There are six grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
