HARRISON HENRY BURGETT was born in Ashtabula Co, Ohio, 3/3/1841, son of Isaiah and Betsy Parker Burgett.He and Christianna Bacon, daughter of Harris and Adelia Bacon, were married 7/16/1865 at Hampton, IA.In the spring of 1866, Harrison with wife Christianna and his brother, Milbry, in the company of others formed a wagon train and headed west.They settled in Dixon Co., NE.He took a homestead near Ponca.His wife died October, 1874, leaving him with 3 children.Harrison married Susanna Miller in 1874, daughter of James and Nancy Miller of Ponca.

Harrison fathered 13 children, three by his first wife and 10 by his second.By his first marriage, the children were:Martha, Lillian and Arthur. By his second marriage: Lydia, Nancy, Henry, Harrison, William, Lucy, Gracie Emma, Lewis F., Lottie and twins, a boy and a girl (both died in infancy).

Harrison moved his family to Bassett in 1886.They settled south of Bassett in the Blaine Precinct. This place later became known as the Linke Ranch.On this place the 5 youngest children were born and the twins (1894) died here. These babies were buried on top of the second hill, the highest, south of the house, Harrison set posts and put a log chain fence around these two small graves. This later became part of the Linke pasture.

In the spring of 1902, Harrison charted a railroad car and moved his family, his son, Henry and wife to Shasta Co., CA.They returned to Nebraska and settled down to farming what they called the Thurman Place. Here, Gracie, Frank and Lottie attended the Thurman School.They also owned 80 acres 8 miles south of Bassett.In 1909, Harrison retired from farming, moving into Bassett and buying 10 acres in the northeast part of Bassett.He died 12/8/1915; buried in Thurman cemetery. Susan sold this property to Hornby and Lewis and they located the Rock Co. Oil Company here. She then purchased property on Cedar St.Susan died 10/27/1933; buried in Thurman cemetery.

Death of Harrison Burgett.

Harrison Burgett, an old resident of Rock county, died at his home in Bassett on Wednesday of hardning of the arteries and heart failure.

Mr. Burgett was a member of the I. O. O. F. of Long Pine and thirteen of the members of the order went from here to attend the funeral, which was held in the M. E. church in Bassett yesterday, being conducted by the lodge. The remains were taken to the cemetery near Charley Brown's in Thurman precint for interment.

Mr. Burgett was an old Civil War veteran, there being but eleven more left in Rock county.
