J. H. Barnes, postmaster at Hooker, died Sunday and was buried in the Oberlin Cemetery Monday with Grand Army honors. Mr. Barnes had been for some years suffering from a tumor in the left side caused by being hit over the head by a belt breaking in a saw mill in 1881. So it was not called upon suddenly to set his house in order and go the way of all the earth. His widow is a sister of "Wild Bill Hickok" so well known to early Kansans. He was a member of the 103rd Pennsylvania Infantry.
