Retired Abilene Grocer Succumbs at Home, 2050 North 2nd
Funeral services for A. J. BOTTS, 78, retired Abilene groceryman who died Tuesday, will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Highland street Church of Christ. A. R. LAWRENCE will be assisted by Homer HAILEY and R. C. LEDBETTER in officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery.
Mr. BOTTS died at 6 p.m. at his home, 2050 North Second street. Failing health forced his retirement more than three years ago. His condition had been critical for several weeks.
He resided in Lubbock and Crosby counties for 35 years and was engaged in the mercantile business at Lubbock before moving to Abilene ten years ago.
Following the death of his first wife, Mr. BOTTS was married 24 years ago to Mrs. Beulah STAGNER, who survives. Two sons, S. H. BOTTS of Fort Worth and I. E. BOTTS of Silver City, and five children of Mrs. BOTTS by a former marriage also survive. In the latter group are R. E. STAGNER and Mrs. Lester HARRIS, Abilene; Mrs. O. P. BOND, El Paso; Mrs. J. P. GIBSON, Lawton, Okla., and Mrs. T. D. HOOKER, Hale Center. A brother, Luther BOTTS lives at Binghampton, Ky., boyhood home of Mr. BOTTS.
Mr. BOTTS was a member of the Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be A. J. HARRIS, W. C. SMITH, Charles BURRUS, H. P. McGRADY, J. K. SHIPMAN, and W. H. FREE.
