Cassie Elizabeth "Fay" Divert, age 23, of 1191 Clark St., Lowpoint, died at 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at the Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago after a lifelong and courageous battle with cystic fibrosis.

She was born Sept. 17, 1987, in Peoria to Clair Jr. and Tammy (Deffenbaugh) Divert.

She overcame all odds and gave a miraculous natural birth to a healthy baby boy, Tyler William Divert, who survives her.

She also is survived by her parents, Clair Jr. and Tammy Deffenbaugh Divert of Lowpoint; four brothers, Clair (Michelle) Divert III of Lacon, Michael (Chelsea) Divert and Wayne McDaniels, both of Lowpoint and Steve Skinner of Peoria; one sister, Sue Ann (Joe) Denison, also of Peoria; her grandparents, Dorothy Divert of Lowpoint, George and Marlene Deffenbaugh of Henry and Donna Flanagan of Peoria; and uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Clair Divert Sr.

Cassie did not let her condition defeat her. She played volleyball in grade school until her breathing finally became too difficult.

She loved fishing, shopping, scrap booking, gabbing with friends and interacting with her nurses and respiratory therapists, often teasing them by showing them the proper way to operate her equipment. She was a caring person, always putting others before herself.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be next to her grandfather in the Chillicothe Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Divert family, P.O. Box 84, Lowpoint, IL 61545.

Lenz Memorial Home and Funeral Planning Services of Lacon is in charge of arrangements.
