"ANSWERED TAPS."
"We wonder why death separates a love so grand, or is that to deep for human minds to understand."
Thomas McBath has answered taps and gone to join other G.A.R. Comrades who have gone on before. The final curtain fell Friday morning when he passed to the Great Beyond to join in the vesper services of the Great White throne.
Thomas McBath was born in Boston, Mass., April 21, 1842, died at his home in the north part of town Jan. 27, 1933, age 90 years, 9 months and 6 days. He resided in Boston until 7 years of age when he moved with his parents to Madrid Springs, N.Y., where he grew to manhood. On Aug. 29, 1864, he joined Company D., 106 N.Y. Inf., and served until Jan. 22, 1865, when he was honorably discharged near Washington, D.C. He was a private in Capt. Thomas Shaw's company and was with Gen. Phil Sheridan during his celebrated march through Georgia to the sea.

Thomas was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He lived there until he was 7 years of age and then his parents moved to Madrid Springs, New York where he grew to manhood. On August 29, 1864 he joined Co. D., 106 NY. Inf. and served until Jan 22, 1865. A few weeks after his discharge he and his brother, Robert, came to Crawford Co., Kansas. After a few months they returned to New York for a visit. Thomas returned to Kansas with his younger brother, Samuel.
Thomas married, Dec. 23, 1868, Harriet Bunch. They had nine children, 3 of which survived at the time of his death; J.W. of Amsterdam, MO, Charles of La Cygne, and Mrs. Myrtle McPherson of Colorado Springs.
Thomas married 2nd, Oct 17, 1900, Mrs. Lucy Dean. She survives him. To this union one daughter, Mrs. Alberta Gilmore, was born.
Besides the widow and four children he is survived by 30 grandchildren, 37 gr-grandchildren, seven nephews, 6 nieces, 3 stepchildren, Raymond, Wesley and Joseph Dean on Pleasanton, and a brother of Lisbon, N.Y.
