"Irene Vernell Bennett, 83, St Joseph, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at her home.
She was born May 16, 1923, in Blytheville, Mo., to James Edward and Lois Mabel (Nelson) Waldrip. She had resided in St Joseph for many years. She married John H. Bennett on Oct. 20, 1943, and they later divorced. She was employed by Noma Lites and retired from the Missouri State Hospital.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Melvin Bennett; two brothers, Joseph and Lewis Wardrip; three sisters, Geraldine Campbell, Josephine Frame and Louise Elberts; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Medek (Bob) and Sharon Hunt (David); three sons, Ronnie Bennett, Everett Bennett and John Bennett (Cherlyn); two brothers, James Wardrip of Bethany, Mo., and Marvin Wardrip of Davenport, Iowa; her sister, Marilyn Jones; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
