Dr. W. Arvil Allen

ALLEN, DR. W. ARVIL, born October 24, 1923, passed away at Wesley Manor Retirement Community on September 16, 2010 at the age of 86.

He was a retired United Methodist minister and a member of the Kentucky Methodist Conference. Arvil was a World War II Marine veteran. After serving as a Marine, Arvil pursued his undergraduate degrees from Lindsey Wilson College and Union College. He later earned his master's degree at Emory Candler School of Theology and a Doctorate of Ministry at the Lexington Theological Seminary.

During his almost 50-year tenure, Dr. Rev. Allen served as pastor, to many church communities throughout Kentucky, including, City Road Chapel United Methodist church, Mumfordville United Methodist church, Mt. Holly United Methodist Church and Fern Creek United Methodist Church. After serving as pastor, he was appointed superintendent of the Henderson District and then retired as director for the Council on Ministries.

Arvil is survived by the his wife of nearly 67 years, Vatis Fights Allen; a son, Philip and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Allen of Bowling Green; a daughter-in-law, Anna Allen of Louisville; five grandchildren, Angela Allen Hill, Daphne Allen-Bonenberger, Jeniffer Allen Justice, Allyson Reynolds and Jonathan Allen; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, James C. Allen of Indiana; and two sisters, Linda Reed and Wanda Miller, both of Liberty, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patnie and Alice Davis Allen; a stepmother, Edith Campbell Allen; a beloved son, William A. Allen; three brothers, Bernard Allen, Elvern Allen Sr. and Charles Allen; and an infant sister.

The funeral service was held September 19, 2010 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. The service was held by Rev. Ron Sauer. The burial was held at Whited Cemetery with military honors
