Funeral Rites Announced for Dakota Priest. Rev. Alfred P. Abler Will Be Buried in Taycheedah After City Rites. Funeral services for the Rev. Alfred P. Abler, 56, pastor of St. Augustine's church, Dallas, S.D., and a native of the Town of Empire, who died Saturday in a hospital at Gregor, S.D., after a short illness, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's church in this city. A solemn requiem mass will be celebrated for the late priest, who read his first mass in St. Joseph's church on July 11, 1920, following his ordination to the priesthood July 2, 1920 at Oconomowoc. Burial will be in St. Charles cemetery, Taycheedah. Son of Michael R. and Agnes Petrie Abler, the Rev. Fr. Abler was born Dec. 1, 1893. He attended the rural schools of the county and also the Fond du Lac High school, withdrawing from the latter institution in 1911 to enter St. Lawrence college, Mt. Calvary, preparatory to becoming a priest. He completed his course in philosophy there and in 1917 began his theological studies at St. Francis seminary, Milwaukee. He was ordained by the late Archbishop S.G. Messmer. The Rev. Fr. Abler was assigned to the Lead diocese in South Dakota, serving as pastor at Hamill [St. Mary Church], and later being transferred to Dallas, where he was in charge of St. Augustine's parish for most of his 30 years in the priesthood . He visited relatives and friends here during June, returning to Dallas July 1. He became ill two weeks after returning to his home. Surviving the priest are an uncle, Bernard Petrie, Mt. The body of the Rev. Alfred P. Alfred Peter Abler, who died Aug. 12, at Dallas, S.D., were held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Zacherl funeral home and at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's church, where on July 11, 1920, the late priest had read his first mass following his ordination at Oconomowoc. Celebrant of the solemn requiem mass this morning was the Rev. Frank Monighan, Gregory, S.D., the Rev. Francis A. Shea of North Fond du Lac was deacon, the Rev. A.J. Klapoetke, chaplain at the Catholic Home, sub-deacon and the Rev. Joseph Hosch, assistant at St. Joseph's master of ceremonies. The Rev. H.G. Riordan, pastor, delivered the sermon. Seated in the sanctuary were the Revs. N.L. Gross, Appleton, J.P. Reichling, Milwaukee, Raymond Fox and Robert Kircher, assistants at St. Mary's, William E. Cox, assistant at St. Patrick's and Father Meinsch, O.F.M. Cap. of Mt. Calvary. Burial was in St. Charles cemetery, Taycheedah, with the Rev. Charles H. Virnig of Winner, S.D., conducting committal rites. Among others from a distance attending the services were Mrs. Margaret Foxhaoven, Winner; Miss Kathleen Monighan, Gregory, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Worm, WAuwatosa; and Miss Ann Michels, Dallas.
