He became a FreeWill Baptist minister, was ordained in 1841 in R.I., and pastored churches in R.I., Mass, moving finally to Iowa in 1855, where he was actively engaged, organizing the Pleasant Prairie Church, and pastored Welton, Clay and Central City churches in Iowa. She no doubt, was a helpmeet to her minister husband, while caring for her growing family.
They had 6 children: Amy May born May 17, 1841;
Frederick born July 20, 1843;
Harriet J born May 20, 1846;
Joseph born Jan 27, 1848;
Julin born Jan 23, 1849; and
Martin Cheney born Mar 14, 1852.
Rev Batcheler and Clarissa are buried at Jordan's Grove Cemetery.
