According to a family historian, Isaiah Fulford passed after he was scratched by a thorny vine (such as a Devil's Walkingstick). The cause of death was a gangreen infection in the wound.
On October 10, 2011, a new headstone was placed at the gravesite of Isaiah Fulford, replacing a wooden marker that had been destroyed. The headstone was proveded by the Veteran's Administration, as Mr. Fulford served in Galloway's Company of the NC Coast Guard in the Civil war. Several descendents were on hand for the laying of the stone.
