Frederick Bollwinkel was born in Liverpool, England, where his family lived for a few years before they immigrated to the United States when he was 9 years old. He was married on 17 Feb 1872 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hannah Jane Parker. His parents were born in Germany. His family was involved in the production of sugar. This knowledge brought them to Utah where they set up a mill in the Sugar House area. Frederick was listed as a member of the Philip De La Mare company (1852) Frederick was listed as age 9 at the time. Frederick's father, John Bollwinkel's name is on the survey plat showing he was the owner of a lot for farming in the Sugar House area.
Frederick lived on 151 Center Street just west of the Utah State Capital building. He worked as a teamster. When he and his son were engaged in loading his wagon the team got frighten and made a dash down the street and Frederick fell out of the rear of the wagon. He lit on a stone on the back of his head and became unconscious. Paralysis of the spine set in and his life was brought to a sudden close on 2 Sept 1901. He lived in the Nineteenth ward at his passing. He was 58 years old at the time.
