Mary Goodyear was christened on January 22, 1629 at St. Mary Woolnoth Parish in London. She was the daughter of Stephen Goodyeare, who worked as a merchant in London. A record of marriage between her parents can be found for the year 1620, at St Gregory by St Paul, in London, England.

Her mother's full name is not entirely clear. A handwritten christening record at St. Mary Woolnoth's appears to show her mother was named Fhdena. However, her mother's name was recorded as Mary, when her mother lived in the New Haven Colony. A few family trees name her mother as Mary Gibbard, although the source of this information is unknown.

Mary Goodyear and her sister named Hannah immigrated from London to New Haven, along with their parents. They arrived in New Haven on May 22, 1640, on a ship named "St. John". Their brother named Stephen was born in New Haven in 1641, but he died as an infant. Their sister named Lydia was born in New Haven in 1645. The four children are listed in a book entitled "Genealogy of the Goodyear Family", which was written by Grace Goodyear Kirkman in 1899.

Mary Goodyear's mother went missing around 1646, while on a voyage back to England to claim an inheritance in London.

When Mary Goodyear was 19 years old, her father married again, in New Haven in 1648. Her stepmother was named Margaret (Lewen) Lamberton Goodyear (1614 - after 1670).

Mary Goodyear married Capt. Thomas Lake of Boston, at the age of 20, in 1649.

She passed away at the age of 76.
