Mrs. Lois A. Powers, wife of George A. Powers, passed away at her home on West Fourth Street, Villisca, on Saturday afternoon, April 22, 1911, at 35 minutes past twelve o'clock at the age of 53 years, 1 month, and 12 days. Her death was due to Bright's Disease. She had been in poor health for the past two years, but the last week was thought to be much better. On Saturday morning, she went to the Kitchen with her daughter, Vesta, and just as she raised her arm, she fell over and did not regain consciousness. Her sudden death was a great shock to her family and friends. Funeral services were held at the home on West Fourth Street, Tuesday morning of this week at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. Taylor, of the Methodist Church, the body was laid to rest in the McClelland Cemetery 11 miles southeast of Villisca.
Lois LaFlueer was born in West Conestable, New York on March 10, 1858. In 1869 she came with her parents to Iowa. Their goods were shipped on the first train that came over the C.B. & Q. She was married in Taylor County on May 7, 1876 to George A. Powers. To them were born five children, two sons, Roy L. and G. F. both of Villisca, three daughters, Mrs. Smith Leonard of Corning, Mrs. Hugh F. Galvin of Dallas Texas, and Miss Vesta Powers of Villisca, who have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their great grief. Besides these she is survived by a husband, George A. Powers; her brother, H. N. LaFluer, of Milsestone, Sask., Canada and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Adams of Garland, South Dakota. About 5 years ago Mrs. Powers came with her husband and family to Villisca from Cantoon, Illinois and since that time had lived around here. Mrs. Powers was a member of the Eastern Star in Villisca and a member of the Ladies of the Macaboes of Yankton, South Dakota. In early life Mrs. Powers united with the Methodist church, of which she was a faithful member and attendant and she lived a good Christian life and was a good Christian lady. She was blessed with a kind and happy disposition which characterized her life and won for her many friends of all which whom she came in contact. She was devoted to her family and friends and lived a life of usefulness. She was beloved by all who knew her and her demise brought sorrow in many hearts.
