Merle Mahan Bland, age 94, passed away Oct. 15, 2010 in Houston, Texas.

She was born in School Land, Texas, in Gonzales County, on Oct. 5, 1916 to John Jay and Margaret Edna (Pruett) Mahan. Merle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Benjamin Franklin (Ben) Bland on Aug. 21, 1996, and eight siblings: Alvin, Howard, Amos, Celeste, Derwood, Glenna, Tom and David. She is survived by her loving daughters, Mary Blundell of Seguin and Margaret Alice Napier and husband, Patrick Neill of Houston; son, David Mahan Bland and wife Neva Jean of Alvin; sisters, Mamie Ruth Kennedy of Nixon and Bessie Littlefield of Westlake Village, Calif.; grandsons, Clayton David Blundell of Austin, John David Bland of Pearland, Brandon Neill Napier of Houston, Gary Lee Bland of Austin and Kevin Andrew Napier of Houston; great-grandchildren, Marshall David Bland, Cheyenne Nicole Bland, both of Pearland, and Peyton James Blundell of Austin; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel, Nixon.

Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at Finch Funeral Chapel, Nixon. The Rev. Brice Mandaville will officiate. Interment will follow in the Nixon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. The guest book may be signed online at www.finchfuneralchapels.com.
