LAST RITES FOR MARY ELIZABETH GARST
Mary Elizabeth, daughter of James and Sylvina Wright, was born April 16, 1872 on the old Wright homestead north of prairie point school house in Cloud County, Kansas. In this community center she grew to womanhood.
On March 2, 1892 she was united with Frank Garst in the bonds of matrimony, who preceded her in death on September 10, 1928. One son, Wilber, preceded her in death on March 17, 1941. She endured the hardships of life with much fortitude, and with much pleasure rehearsed the sacrifices made by the pioneers. On February 28, 1948, the shades of evening were drawn about her window, and another mortal career was ended, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 12 days.
Four sons and one daughter survive to mourn her passing: Pearl, of Beloit; Alford, of Mankato; Mark and Lafe of Minneapolis; and one daughter, Bessie Dameron, of Beloit; 38 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J.E. Graham and Mrs. Ike Brooks, and one brother, L.A. Wright of Concordia, and many nieces and nephews. A community of old friends and neighbors gathered to pay a final tribute of respect.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Glasco on Tuesday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Clifford L. Moody officiating. Singers were W.N. Pilcher and Lester Pilcher, accompanied by Mrs. Edna Norton. Serving as pallbearers were Eddie Garst, Burton Thompson, Tommy Dameron, Carl Pierson, Jess Dameron, Jr., and James Garst. Flower bearers were Mrs. Lowell Nutland and Mrs. Marion Everley. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with the Griffith Funeral Home in charge.
