Coweta Co. Chronicles. Was a student at the University of North Carolina but
left to fight for the Confederacy. Joined at age 18, Company D, Phillips
Legion, Sept. 20, 1861 and served til Sep. 1862. He was mustered out by a
substitute. Became a sucessful planter and member of Methodist church. He
married Mary L. "Mollie" Townsend in 1868 and they had at least three children:
Mollie, Sallie, and Hugh. He then married Fanny Lizzie Simms in 1875 and they
had children.
