Her parents are William Sanford Marteney and Eunice Eastburn both born in Maryland.According to the book, 'West Virginia in History, Life, Literature and Industry, Vol II,' by Morris Purdy Shawkey published in 1928 page 454: "Dr. Benjamin Dolbeare was one of the foremost editors, writers, physicians of his time. He was owner and editor from May 30, 1840 to the date of his death June 7, 1854 of the Clarksburg Virginia, the Clarksburg Democrat, the Scion of Democracy and the Independent Democrat."
