Belton A. Long, 61, of Route 3, Leesville, died early Sunday morning in the Aiken County Hospital in Aiken after a serious illness of 24 hours. He had been in declining health for some time. Mr. Long was the son of the late Walter D. and Ridona Crapps Long of Lexington County near Leesville and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was active in his church and had been a deacon. Mr. Long had lived in this community for the last 30 years near Murray and was a farmer. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Murtice Adams Long of Route 3, Leesville; seven daughters, Mrs. Clarence Cockrell of Monetta, Mrs. J. W. Cockrell of Batesburg, Mrs. Vasco Kyser and Mrs. Morris Miller of Gilbert and Mrs. Odell Richard, Mrs. Thurmond Smith and Miss Lorine Long of Leesville; two sons, W. D. of Batesburg and Edward Long of Leesville; three sisters. Mrs. Alanzo Lown and Mrs. J. P. Swygert of Leesville and Mrs. Marvin Jumper of West Columbia; one brother, Abner Long of Leesville; one half-brother, Rodney Roberts of Leesville; one half-sister, Mrs. Ott Alewine of Mims, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 this afternoon from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Murray by the pastor, the Rev Arthur J. Brantley of Columbia and the Rev. J. D. Atkerson. Burial in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Billy Cockrell, Ray Cockrell, Richard Roberts, Nick Swygert, Jimmie Wessinger and Raymond Hallman. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Gillian, Jim Gillian, Homer Keisler, Ruben Taylor, W. V. Taylor, Edgar Price, Clay Amick, Hoyt Hyler, Will Hallman, Dr. O. C. Holley, Bob Mack and Oran Adams.
