John was the son of Adam Emery & Mary Catherine Hinton. He married Nancy Ann Mosley on 7 August 1864 & they had 10 children. He married Eleanora Hight on 21 January 1904. Rev. Emery served with the 10th MO Infantry. He was a cotton farmer & Baptist minister. At the time of his death, Rev. Emery was living in Lubbock Co. TX near his son Eugene. He was pastor of a church at Center Community near Abernathy TX. After Rev. Emery's death, his widow Eleanora lived out her remaining days at Women's Confederate Home in Austin Tx. There were no children from that marriage. Rev. Emery was a tailor in the Army of the Confederate States of America.
