COVE, Utah Donald L. Taylor, 83, peacefully passed away at his home with his family around him on Friday, Dec. 16, 2005. He was born April 15, 1922, at his grandparent's home in Logan, Utah. He was the first of eight children born to Glen and Ruby Ann Johnson Taylor.

He spent his growing up days between the ranch in Stockton, Idaho, and their family home in Preston. They moved to the 2000-acre ranch during the summer months and back to their home in Preston for the school months. Even though they worked hard, he loved being at the ranch as his favorite hobbies were fishing and hunting.

On June 29, 1942, he married Lorraine Povey in American Falls, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. Two years after they were married, Don was drafted into the Army. During World War II, he was stationed in the Philippines. He has invoked a strong feeling of patriotism in his family for the wonderful country we live in.

Don and Lorraine also lived in Stockton during the summer and Preston during the school months until 1957 when they bought a small farm in Cove. They have lived in Cove for 48 years. Besides running the farm, he worked at Van Gas in Preston for 28 years. He managed it for 12 of those years. In 1982, Don and Lorraine purchased a vacation home in Spencer, Idaho. They have enjoyed many good times at Spencer, riding their ATV's over the forest country in the summers and their snowmobiles in the winter.

Don was well known for his acts of kindness to his family, friends and neighbors. Every summer he grew a large vegetable garden to share with his family. He loved to visit with people and was a friend to everyone. He is famous for his storytelling — young or old loved to hear his stories, especially about "the good old days."

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Elder's Quorum president, Sunday School superintendent, Young Men's president, counselor in a bishopric, high priest group leader, and ward executive secretary. He was active in the community, serving as commander of the American Legion Post 50, president of the High Creek Culinary Water Company and served on the Cache County Planning Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Cove; children, Brent (Cindy) Taylor of Cheyenne, Wyo., Lynn Taylor of Athol, Idaho, Darlene (Jon) White of Cove, Curtis (Mary) Taylor of Heber City, Utah; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Keith (Onda) Taylor of Blackfoot, Idaho, Dallas (Della) Taylor of Penrose, Utah, Thayne (Carol) Taylor of Rupert, Idaho, and Bryce Taylor of Kimberly, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Velma Fish and Lorraine Lundberg; and by a brother, Sherman Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, in the Cove/Cherry Creek Ward Chapel with Bishop Michael Allen conducting. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery.
