Jackie DeWayne "Jack" Evans, 70, of Rock Island, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

His body has been cremated. His ashes will be buried at 2 p.m. Tuesday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. His son, the Rev. Michael Evans, will officiate. Those wishing to attend the committal service should meet at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, between 1 and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Association.

He was born March 31, 1933, in Winterset, Iowa, son of Gordon and Dorothy Maxine Clark Evans. He married Doris Larson June 30, 1953, in Moline.

He was a graduate of Rock Island High School. He was owner of Perma-Stone, Moline, for 15 years. He was then co-owner, with his wife, of Dorey's Shirts and Things, Rock Island, for many years.

He served as a U.S. Army sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island.

He played locally for the Mohawks semi-pro football team. Jack was an avid Fighting Illini fan. His family was of utmost importance in his life.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Doris; sons, Steve (Phyllis) Evans, Moline, Michael (Julie) Evans, Collinsville, Ill., Ken (Jill) Evans, Summerville, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
