Abraham L. Golightly Former Resident Of Golden, Dies Friday
Abraham L. Golightly, retired Colorado and Southern railroad man, and former Golden resident, died at St. Joseph's hospital in Denver, Friday afternoon, October 18. Death was due to a heart ailment and other complication. He was 79. Mr. Golightly was born in Duquoin, Ill., July 8, 1867. He came to Colorado as a young boy with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. William Gollghtly and they first made their home in Leadville, Colo., before moving to Golden. He was reared here and attended the Golden schools. When a young man he entered the employ of the Colorado ond Southern railroad company, and faithfully served that line aa engineer and fireman for 38 years. He retired from service with the railroad eight years ago. For the past twenty years the Golightlys had made their home in Denver. Mr. Golightly was a member of Golden Lodge No. 13. I. O. O. F. for over 35 years, and was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen. On February 12, 1880. Mr., Golightly and Miss Minnie Hampton were united in marriage. Five children were born to this union, all of whom survive. Surviving are his wife, Minnie Golightly; two daughters, Mrs. Ida Haynes, Golden. Mrs. Lulu Williams, Los Angeles, Calif.; three sons, Joseph and James Golightly, Denver, William Golightly, Glendale, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Belle Allen, Denver. Funeral services were held in the Woods Mortuary chapel at 2 p. m. Monday, with Rev. John E. Ryan officiating. Interment was in Golden cemetery. With the exception of John Hampton Jr. of Golden, all the pallbearers were grandsons by marriage of Mr. Golightly. They are Ralph Maughan, Robert Todd, Harvey Gorman. of Golden; Delbert Lilly and Roy Owen of Denver.
