George was the son of Edward Howe Watson and his wife Sarah Lee "Maria" Crittenden.

He married Corinne Adele Quigley on Dec. 7, 1871 in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky. They resided at Frankfort, Kentucky until 1879 when they moved to Chicago, Illinois and eleven years later to Caro, Michigan.

They had seven children:
