Edith was born the daughter of Thomas Merritt and Irene M. (Marlatt) Abbey. She married William J. Wasson on Oct. 28, 1934 in Peoria, IL. He died Feb. 12, 1992 in Peoria. Together, they had five children. Two daughters; Mrs. Jim (Darlene) Haynes of Bartonville and Mrs. Charles (Juanita) Lines of Peoria; and three sons; Louis "Sid" and Joseph T., both of Peoria, and John "Jack" of East Peoria. Edith was also survived by one sister, Edna Scattergood of Arlington, VA, and one brother, David Francis Abbey.
A life member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 1, Ladies Auxiliary, she served as chaplain and past commander. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a charter member of the National Order of Alley Cats, and she was a Salvation Army volunteer.
