Willie Mae Daugherty Braden, 89, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Braden retired in 1969 from the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant operated by Union Carbide Nuclear Division. She had worked in the plant's cafeteria for 27 years.

She was born in Oliver Springs on April 14, 1909, the youngest daughter of James F. Daugherty and Dinah Patterson Daugherty. She was the last of 10 children.

Mrs. Braden was an active member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. She was a member of several area clubs, including Daughters of America, White Shrine, Eastern Star, Amerarants, and the Good Neighbors Club.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling and participating in several senior citizens' groups.She was the widow of Gusta M. Braden.

Mrs. Braden is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Braden Gilchrist and her husband, Howard "Gil" Gilchrist, of Heiskell; two sons, Virgil W. Braden and his wife, Sherry Walls, of Lenoir City, and Gustin R. "Buddy" Braden and his wife, Linda Braden, of Oak Ridge; and by 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Gary Smith and the Rev. Garvan Walls officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Butler Cemetery in Oliver Springs.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Print Shop Bible Ministry, 115 Old Hen Valley Road, Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
