Ray Mathews, 75, of Lower Sunny Slope Rd, Wenatchee, Washington formerly of Loraine, Ill. community died Tuesday May 31, 1983 in Wenatchee hospital. He was born Feb. 3, 1908, in Loraine, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mathews, formerly of Loraine, Ill. He moved to Chelan, Wash. in 1928 where he worked for Bill Harding Orchards. On May 29, 1929, he married Ethel Kennedy, formerly of the Bowen and Beverly, Ill. community. They lived in Chelan until 1946 when they moved to Wenatchee, Wash. where he was employed by Webb Tractor. He operated Rays Garage from 1947 to 1964 when he became an orchardist until his retirement in 1981. Funeral services were held June 2, 1983 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in East Wenatchee, Washington. He was a member of the church, also a former member of the Eagles and gun club.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel of Wenatchee, Wash.; a son, Wendell of Cashmere, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Eunice Markey of Wenatchee, Wash.; one brother, Floyd Mathews of Woodland Hills, Calif.; three grandchildren, two step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley.
Wards Funeral Chapel of Leavenworth, Wash. was in charge of arrangements.
Interment was at Wenatchee City Cemetery, Wenatchee, Washington.
