OBITUARY:
WILLIAMS-Richard (Dick) Joe, 57, passed away at home, Wednesday, January 24, 2001. He was born on May 25, 1943 in the Claremore Indian Hospital to Frances Ruth (Cochran) and Hubert B. Williams. Dick, a member of the Cherokee Nation, was very proud of his Cherokee heritage. Dick graduated from Catoosa High School where he was valedictorian and proudly won several awards, both academic and athletic. He graduated Oklahoma State University in 1965 with a B.S. in Accounting. While at OSU he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and the Army ROTC. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army and was primarily stationed in Korea for his tour of duty with the First Battalion 29th Army. Dick was honorably discharged in 1967 and returned to the United States where he began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville. At this same time Dick would also resume his education by becoming a CPA and earning an MBA and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa. Dick was recognized as a computer expert and also worked in this capacity for Sun Oil Company, The Williams Companies and Deloitte Haskins & Sells where he was a partner. At the time of his death he was employed by SABRE, as a Project Manager. Dick formed WILCOM L.L.C. and was an advocate for Kenaf and its advances in the fiber industry. Dick is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lillian Sanders Williams; son, Stephen Lee Williams and daughter, Vannessa Williams Hoose (Lance). Dick is also survived by his brothers, Thomas H. Williams (Nedra) of Catoosa and David L. Williams (MaryAnn) of Tulsa; half-sister, Dorothy Rankin (Elvin); sister-in-law, Jan Collins (Mike) of East Hampton; 1 niece, Kelly E. Raley (John) of Houston; 2 nephews, David Joe Williams of Catoosa and Brendan Collins of New York; as well as many family members and friends. Service will be held at Ninde Garden Chapel on Friday, January 26 at 2 p.m. Burial at Dick Duck Cemetery at Catoosa. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Saint Francis Hospice.
