Mrs. Elizabeth Place, widow of Nelson T. Place, who passed away Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Higgins, was born in Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, Sept. 24th, 1815, and would therefore have been 90 years old had she lived five months more. She was first married to John M. Spaulding, May 22, 1834, in Pennsylvania. Mr. Spaulding died Dec. 21 of the same year. In October, 1836, she and her son, then one and a half years old, came to Laporte county, which had since been her home, most of the time being spent in the city of Laporte. She was married to Nelson T. Place in this city, March 31, 1839, and was the second time left a widow by the death of Mr. Place, Oct. 28, 1869, since which time she had resided continuously in this city. She was the mother of six children, three of whom, Mrs. W. E. Higgins, of this city, Willard A. Place of Chesterton and Nelson B. Place of Chicago, survive. Early in life she united with the Baptist church of this city and ever since had continued an active, zealous member of that society. The funeral, which will be private, with only the family relatives and her intimate personal friends expected, will take place at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Higgins. Burial at Patton cemetery, with Austin Cutler in charge. -- Laporte Herald.
