Lance Cpl. Joseph E. Rodewald, 21, of Albany, Ore., died Oct. 13 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Survivors include his mother, Jacque Brotherton of Albany; his father and stepmother, John and Barbara Rodewald of Albany; grandparents Larry and Mary Pat Adair of Eugene; three brothers, John II of Fort Lewis, Wash., Josh of Jefferson and Josiah of Albany; and his domestic partner of one year, Kandi Hargett.
