CARROLL WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Algra Columbus Carroll, 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Stokes County on July 8, 1919, the son of the late Cicero Columbus Carroll and Mertie Hall Carroll. Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Magdalene Key Carroll in 2009. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll were longtime members of Germanton Baptist Church. He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army Air Corps. Mr. Carroll was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He loved to work in his garden and share the bounty with all of his friends and neighbors. Throughout his life, Mr. Carroll was blessed with many loving pets, especially his latest cat, "Watermelon". Mr. Carroll is survived by two sons, Steve Carroll and wife, Beth and David Carroll, both of King; two grandchildren, Maria Carroll and her fianc‚, Steven Simpson and Wesley Carroll and wife, Ashley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Carroll will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at Germanton Baptist Church in Germanton with the Rev. Justin Jones officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening April 8, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Memorials may be made to, Germanton Baptist Church, 6810 S. Germanton Rd., Germanton, NC 27019. The family would like to send a special thanks to Gail Moses for her devoted care to Mr. Carroll in his time of need.
