Last rites held at McCarley for William Jones

Last rites for William David Jones were held Sunday, February 18 at 2 p.m. at the McCarley Baptist Church, where he had held membership and served as a deacon for the past thirty-one years.

Officiating were Revs. Jim Jeffreys of Sardis, John Gray of Grenada, and Billy McKay of Madison. Interment was in the Bear Creek Cemetery in Attala County.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Hear Creek Church and served as a deacon there for approximately 35 years before moving to McCarley.

Oldest of twelve children, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Jones of McCool, and was born March 4, 1872 in Attala County. He grew up there and married the late Martha Pilcher, who preceded him in death by three years.

Mr. Jones is survived by two daughters. Mrs. W. C. DuBard, Carrollton and Mrs. Eunice J. Barksdale, Madison; a son, Kenneth E. Jones, Clarksdale; eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Pinkie Oliver, Rogers, Arkansas; Mrs. Ida Pace, Idabel, Oklahoma, Miss Bessie Jones, Jackson; and a brother, Alonzo Jones, Ethel.

Pallbearers wore Fulton Barksdale of Jackson, Julian Barksdale of Madison, William J. DuBard of Drew, Paul Jones of Memphis, Earl Jones of Gunnison, and Truitt Jones of Clarksdale, grandsons of the deceased.
