After Robert's death Nancy continued to care for and improve her share of their land. She also cared for the four children of her deceased daughter, Selitha Brimberry. In later years she sold (or gave) her property to her youngest son, Sanders, whose land adjoined hers. Sanders descendants are still making use of the land.
One day in 1866 Nancy was riding her horse to visit a neighbor when a windstorm blew up. Both Nancy and the horse were killed by a falling tree. She was buried beside Robert in an unmarked grave surrounded by a rock fence.
