Born c. 1832 in Edgefield County, SC. University of South Carolina, 1855. One of 6 brothers who served in Confederate Army. He was wounded at Sharpsburg in 1862 while 2nd Lieutenant, Company B, Hampton's Legion Infantry. Promoted to Captain and surrendered at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865. Married Lucy Glover (b. 1845) in Brazoria, TX in October 1865. Died of yellow fever on 8 September 1867. His son R. Augustus was born in 1868.
