Lewis C. Brooks is the son of William &
Nancy (Howard) Brooks.

Lewis originally enlisted in Company E,
37TH INDIANA INFANTRY on Oct 20, 1861;
captured at the Battle of Elkton,
Alabama on May 9, 1862; re-enlisted as
a veteran volunteer; transferred to
Company G, 88TH IND INF in Jan. 1865,
transferred to Company A, 38TH IND INF
on June 7, 1865; mustered out as a
Corporal on July 15, 1865. Lewis
married Amanda C. Woods June 14, 1866
in Shelby County, Indiana. (Amanda filed
for widow's pension on Nov. 15, 1879).

Lewis & Amanda were the parents of 4
children:
Minnie J. Brooks
Carrie E. Brooks
Frank W. Brooks
Bertha Brooks
