GUS ALLEN
Gus Allen was born to Gustavus and Mary Allen, March 8, 1895, in Beacon, Ia., the vicinity in which he spent his childhood. He passed away Sept. 3, 1956, in South San Francisco, Calif., at the age of 61.
He was married July 28, 1917, to Adelie Marie Bloom of Buxton, who preceded him in death on April 9, 1944. Four children were born to this union.
A former coal miner, he lived in Chariton for 21 years. In 1951 he moved to Cedar Rapids where he was employed in the maintenance department of the Collins Radio Co. He worked there until December, 1954. The remainder of his life was spent in San Carlos and Redwood City, Calif.
Mr. Allen is survived by his children, Dr. Donald Allen of San Carlos, Calif., Norman Allen of Kenmore, N.Y., Mrs. Phyllis Boren of Palo Alto, Calif., and Mrs. Iris Malzke of Des Moines; his brothers, James, Raymond and William of Knoxville and Edward of Pershing; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Richards of Des Moines and Mrs. Hazel Pyle of Pershing, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were Saturday, Sept. 8, at the First Lutheran church. Pastor Lester Carlson officiated. Interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
