Leonard E. Appelt, 81, of Waukegan passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago.

He was born July 29, 1927 in North Chicago and was a longtime area resident. Leonard served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1957 and was a lifetime member of AmVets. He retired from Fansteel in North Chicago as a heat treater-electrometals with over 40 years of service.

Leonard is survived by his sons, Donald (Nancy) Moreno, Ronald (Mary) Moreno; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Appelt, Eleanore Appelt; brother, Raymond Appelt; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise (nee Moreno) Appelt; brothers, Edward Appelt, Anthony Appelt; and sister-in-law, Helen Appelt.

Memorial visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 8, 2008 at THE MEMORIAL CHAPEL OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan. For info, 847-623-3730.

Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
