Marjorie Moore Bagby, 78, Born in Village, Is Dead
Born in a village home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright*, Mrs. Marjorie Moore Bagby of Clinton place, River Forest, died Sept. 1 in Presbyterian-St. Luke’s hospital after a long illness. She was 78 years old.
Mrs. Bagby was a daughter of Nathan G. Moore, prominent Chicago attorney, who occupied the home at the southwest corner of Forest ave. and Superior st., built in 1895. Mr. Moore, who lived in the home for many years, was active in village affairs and a factor in its early development. He was a long-time member of First Presbyterian church.
Mrs. Bagby lived on Ashland ave., River Forest, from 1928 to 1951, and at the Woodbine convalescent home, for more than three years.
She was a graduate of Holmes school, Oak Park-Forest (sic) high school (1907), and Wellesley college (1911). She was married to the late John C., Chicago manager of the Commercial Assurance Co., a British firm. He died in 1953.
Mrs. Bagby was interested in Girl Scouting for 25 years, serving in various capacities from 1915 to 1940. She was also a founder of the Junior Guild at First Presbyterian church and took part in other church and community activities.
Surviving Mrs. Bagby are two daughters, Sally Davis of Hisdale and Nancy Rutland of Morristown, Tenn.; two sons, John of Oak Park and David of Arlington Heights; six grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. E. R. (Mary) Hills of North Kenilworth ave., Oak Park, who lived many years in the home immediately south of the Moore house.
She was a member of River Forest Presbyterian church. The family suggest that the church or The Cradle, Evanston, be remembered in memorials in her name.
Services took place Sept. 5 in Drechsler-Brown funeral home with a nephew, the Rev. Nathan Grier Hills of Athens, Ill., officiating. Interment was in Forest Home cemetery.
