Funeral services for Miss Nellie Fawcett, 72, retired teacher from Arleta school, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Edward Holman & Son, with interment in Lone Fir cemetery.
She died in Omaha, Neb., Sunday, where she had been recently living. Her body will be brought here. She was born in Galesville, Ore., February 8, 1876, attended three Oregon colleges – in residence, by correspondence and extension – Reed, Oregon Agricultural (now Oregon State) and the University of Oregon. She received her B.S. degree from Oregon in 1933.
From 1896 to 1897 she taught at Newport, coming to Portland in 1897 to teach at the old Stephens School. It was succeeded by Abernethy. She also taught in the old Atkinson school. In 1909 she came to Arleta, spending 32 years there before her retirement in June, 1941, numbering two generations among her pupils.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Philip S. King, Omaha.
