Sarah Ruth Kirkpatrick Coleman, age 100, died on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at College Walk Retirement Community.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Wilson Carr and Addie Belle Clark Kirkpatrick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Daniel Coleman, Jr.; three sisters, Lucy Freel; Mary Moon, and Adeline Crain; and four brothers, Willis, Marshall, James, and William Kirkpatrick. She was a school teacher in North and South Carolina public schools. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Brevard Chapter. A lifelong Methodist and Democrat, she was most recently an active member at First United Methodist Church in Brevard. Together she and Robert donated the Kirkpatrick-Coleman organ to the Porter Center at Brevard College.

She is survived by a son, Robert Daniel Coleman, III, and his wife, Catherine, of Columbia, SC; a daughter, Dr. Clara R. Coleman of Brevard; a granddaughter, Janet W. Morningstar and her husband, Michael; and two great-grandchildren, Meredith and Coleman Morningstar.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Michael Jordan and Reverend Kerry Purcell officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
