Uncle Abe Rowden Dies at Age of 82. Deceased is survived by wife and two children

Abraham E. Rowden, a well known pioneer citizen of West Maries County, died June 9, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 11 days.

He was born September 29, 1845, and spent most of his life in Maries County. He married twice. The first time to Ann Lawson, on May 29, 1884. No children was born to this union. In 1889 he was married to Margaret J. Whitaker and to this union four children were born. Two preceded him to the grave and the two now living are Robert (Rowden) and Mrs. Boon Wilson.

He united with the Christian Church February 1923. The writer had the privilege of receiving him into the church.

Besides his wife and two children he was mourned by a brother in Oklahoma and a sister in St. Louis, also many friends; but their loss is his gain. Jesus said that death means only life to the Christian. Bro. Rowden is going to be missed in the community in which he lived. He was a good American Citizen. It is hard for us to give up those we love so well, but remember that the poet has said: here we have a time of sorrow, pain and anguish day by day but there'll come a day of gladness, God will wipe all tears away. Then we can say as David said: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want". God give us more men like Bro. Abraham Rowden is my prayer. The funeral was held at Little Tavern Church near Myerstown. Rev. M.E. Sooter.
