Mary Jane Silkwood, 86, of Irving, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2009, in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls with the Rev. John Dillard, associate pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls. A daughter of the late I.E. and Zelle Silkwood, she was born June 5, 1922 in Ranger, Texas. She lived in Wichita Falls and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. In 1957 she moved to Midland, where she was employed by John Cox for more than 40 years until her retirement. She enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially tennis, and had a great love for cats. In July of 2008 she moved to Irving to be near her niece and nephew, Judy & George Haas. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Aradine Ard and Kitty Silkwood Stone; her brother, Noyes Silkwood; her niece, Stefanie Ard Stephenson; and her long time friend and companion, Norma Eckelkamp. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Judy & George Haas, Jena Silkwood, Ivan Ard, Julian Ard, Marsha Ard and Elisa Ard; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews; and her loving cat, "Stray." The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 at First United Methodist Church.
