IDA M. MERCER
Ida M. Ratledge, the only daughter of Luella Florence and Moses Ratledge, was born October 2 1876, near Clay Center Kans. and passed away July 17, 1946 at Enid Okla. at the age of 69 years 9 months and 15 days.
At the age of ten years She moved to Belleville Kans and two years later to a farm near Republic City where she attended school At the age of 17 she was converted under the preaching of H. H. Williams and united with the United Brethren Church On January 22 1896.
She was united in marriage to Edgar E. Mercer at Republic City, Kans. by Rev I. K. Haskins, pastor of the United Brethren church. To this union six children were born, two of whom died In Infancy The four surviving children are Mrs. Fae Elkins of Enid, A. F. Mercer of Wichita Kans., Mrs. Frances Webster, Hollywood, Calif. and Robt L Mercer of Enid. She also leaves her father, Moses Ratledge, who win be 101 years old the first day of October. He has made his home with her for 26 years. He is reputed to be the only surviving Union veteran of Garfield county.
Her grandchildren are Mrs. LaVon Hemeke, Mrs. Maxine Crawford, Jack M. Webster, Joe D., Ida Irene, Fleta Dean, Marjorie Ann, Roberta Lee, and Barbara Lou Mercer. She also leaves three great-grandchildren Calvin and Larry Hemeke and Patricia Ann Crawford. and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded ln death by her husband, mother, and four brothers.
In the fall of 1901, Mrs. Mercer came with her family to Oklahoma, settling 4 miles northeast of Carmen where they lived four years They moved to Carmen In the fall of 1905. Her companion passed away September 17, 1917. Mrs. Mercer remained in Carmen, living in the same house for 81 years. After coming here she united with the Methodist church.
In 1937 she moved to Cherokee where she made her home until 1937 when she moved to Enid. She was a member of the Enid W.C.T.U. the Enid chapter of the Daughters of Union Veterans, and of the Enid Gospel Tabernacle. Her greatest interest was in her family and the Lord's work where the children of God were working for the salvation of souls for she belonged to the Lord's family
