Lifelong Staten Islander Michael Fodor, 95, a retired City Sanitation machinist and a loving family man, died Thursday at his Annadale home.

Born and raised in Travis, he graduated from PS 26.

Mr. Fodor was serving in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, when the base was bombed on December 7, 1941. He was a submariner in the Seventh Fleet, stationed in the Pacific theater.

After his return to civilian life, he lived in Bulls Head and Eltingville before settling in Annadale in 1963.

Mr. Fodor worked as a machinist for the City Department of Sanitation for twenty-three years, until retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Gold Star Post, American Legion, Travis.

Repairing cars, doing carpentry, fishing, boating, and gardening were his favorite pastimes.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-five years, the former Joyce Bryant; his son, Gregory; his daughter, Judith; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Fodor's son, FDNY Lt. Michael Fodor, died September 11, 2001 at Ground Zero.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday from the Matthew Funeral Home, Willowbrook, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Richmond.
Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
