Janice Jane Courtney, age 73, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died October 5, 2010 at the Olathe Medical Center.

Janice was born February 18, 1937 at Le Loup, Kansas. She was the youngest of eight children born to Lea R. and Elba (Fleck) Hopkins. She graduated from Wellsville High School with the Class of 1953.

Janice was united in marriage to Wayne Courtney at Paola, Kansas on January 30, 1954. They became the parents of three sons. They made their home in Paola. Their marriage ended in divorce.

Janice worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital as a licensed mental health technician. She retired from there in 1999.

She was an active member of the Victory Baptist Church in Osawatomie. Janice volunteered as a foster grandparent and also volunteered at John Brown Cabin and the Land Office. She was a member of the Osawatomie Historical Society.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; three brothers Thomas Hopkins, Noble Hopkins and Robert Hopkins; three sisters Anna Bell Barton, Lois Brockway and Letha Hopkins; and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons Joseph and his wife Marsha of Paola, Richard and his wife Donna and Carl and his wife Carol all of Osawatomie; one sister Mary Jess Meyers of Ottawa; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
