Mrs. Loretta E. Chapman [Burwell] was born at Bloomingdale, Dupage County, in Illinois, September 6th, 1850 and died on June 12th, 1924, age 73 years 10 months and 24 days.

She was married to Richard J. Burwell October 5, 1868 at Chicago, Illinois and came to the vicinity of Dunlap in 1870.

Ten children were born to this union; six living and four having preceeded her in death. Mr. Burwell died in April 1914. Those who are left to mourn are two sisters, Mrs. M. [C.] D. Nash and Mrs. Effie Van Slyke; one brother, Albert Chapman, all of Dunlap; one daughter, Mrs. Ada Schlensig of Dunlap; five sons, John Trenton, Nebraska; Albert of Panama Canal Zone; Clarence of Tacoma, Washington; Ray of Redmond, Washington; and Harold of Mobile, Alabama.

Mrs. Burwell had been ill for about a year. Her passing was sudden. She united with the Free Methodist church in 1883 and was one of the charter members of this society. She possessed a faith and confidence in God and always gave in a definite testimony to the saving and sanctifying power of God to save and to cleanse the heart from all sin. She remarked in her testimony, "If the Lord should call for me any time I would be ready to go."

She was a practical as well as a spriritual christian. Her home was always open for prayer. We can say, "Let me die the death of the righteous and let my end be like hers."

J. F. Mudd of Shenandoah preached the funeral sermon.
