Margaret is the daughter of James and Georgina B. Shaw. She married William W. McCallum on January 14, 1873 in Glasgow, Scotland and came to New York with him in the Fall of 1875, weeks after the birth of their second son. Together they had three sons, Thomas, James, and William, and one daughter, Annie. Following her first husband's death she married James Metcalfe on January 12, 1884 at Jamestown, New York, together they had four children, Joseph, Georgina, and Walter who lived to maturity, one child died at birth.
