John William Riley, 67, a leader in Augusta County agriculture, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon (Sept 23, 1968) at his home here. Mr. Riley, a beef cattle and dairy farmer, was president of both the Federal Land Bank and Production Credit Associations in this area and had been a member of the board of directors of both groups for the last 18 years. He had been president for seven years. He was a past president of the Augusta County Farm Bureau and a charter member of the Beverley Manor Ruritan Club and was a past vice president of the club. He had been president of the Augusta County Milk Producers Acssociation since it organization in 1954 and was a member of the Augusta Petroleum Corp. board and a past chairman of the Augusta County committee on Argricultural Stabilzation and Conservation. Mr. Riley was born Feb. 27, 1901 in August County, where he spent his life. He was a son of Harris P. and Nora (Glover) Riley. He was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church, where he had been a deacon for 37 years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Zora (Rosen) Riley; two sons, John W. Riley, Jr. and Charles R. Riley, at home; two daughters, Mrs. George D. Crosby of Arlington and Mrs. Sydney M. Berry Jr. of Roanoke; on brother, Harris P. Riley, Jr. of McKeesport, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. W.C. Shiflet, Mrs. J.P. Boward and Mrs. J.C. Boward, all of Staunton; also 11 granchchildren.
